Condolences Sent to the Families Affected As Six Nations Mourns Fifth COVID-19 Death

Press Release

Monday March 8, 2021 Ohsweken Public Health (OPH) notified Six Nations Health Services (SNHS) of the community’s fifth member lost to the COVID-19 virus.

Elected Council and the Emergency Control Group send sincere condolences to the families and friends affected by this recent loss in the community.

Ohsweken Public Health reported this news to SNHS earlier this morning, in addition to three more positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the community’s total active cases to 60 with contact tracing underway.

Despite surrounding communities moving to less restricted levels of their response framework, community members are reminded that Six Nations will remain in the Black Alert Level of our Pandemic Response Framework, and will be reassessed weekly with further decisions and announcements when the time is appropriate.

In addition Elected Council directed all Six Nations of the Grand River departments to work from home during a two-week shut-down that is anticipated to lift on March 19. Only Critical Essential Services will remain open and can be determined by contacting your services provider directly.

To book a COVID-19 test visit www.sixnationscovid19.ca or call 1-855-977-7737 or 226-446-9909.

Community members are urged to follow public health guidance. Most importantly staying home as much as possible to reduce community transmission rates.

Mental health supports are available for members to access during these difficult times, such as Six Nations Mental Health and Addictions at 519-445-2143; Six Nations Mobile Crisis Line 24/7 at 519-445-2204 or 1-866-445-2204; and Six Nations Social Services 519-445-2071.
