CMA named top health advocacy group by Hill Times Health

Press Release

February 13, 2025

The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) was the top federal health advocacy group in 2024, according to Hill Times Health.

The publication released its annual list of more than 50 health-related groups active with federal parliamentarians and bureaucrats.

“The CMA’s advocacy work delivers solutions for urgent health reform on a national level. This welcome recognition underscores our impact,” said CMA President Dr. Joss Reimer.

The CMA was instrumental in the federal government’s recent deferral of increased capital gains inclusion rates, for example, explaining to policymakers how the changes would hurt community-based physicians and the broader health workforce.

Last year, the CMA also pushed for solutions to the administrative burden in medicine — including eliminating sick notes across Canada and supporting better connectivity between medical records systems, which doctors use every day to share important information.

In its announcement, Hill Times Health also highlighted the CMA’s call for federal funding for Indigenous-led health and wellness initiatives.

It’s not the first time Hill Times Health has recognized the CMA: The CMA was ranked most active health advocacy group in 2022 and was the second most active in 2023.

And with a federal election on the horizon, the CMA is keeping up the momentum in Ottawa. CMA CEO Alex Munter is moderating a virtual town hall on March 3 with Dr. Reimer to discuss solutions to Canada’s urgent health care challenges.
