City of Kingston: City issues Housing and Social Services Report for 2021

Press Release

The City of Kingston’s Housing and Social Services team invites community members to learn more about the incredible work achieved last year, by reading the2021 Housing and Social Services Report.

“The COVID-19 pandemic continued to present challenges for staff and service providers working with our community in 2021. Our teams met these challenges by adjusting their approach to pandemic-based homelessness services, adjusting our social assistance processes to maximize access, and rapidly coordinating Emergency Child Care,” says Ruth Noordegraaf, Director of Housing and Social Services.

“I’m extremely proud to share this work with our community as a way to highlight, celebrate and to build further understanding of the important work being done by our staff, service providers and community partners.”

The year also brought the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and the Homelessness System Review – two key data-driven service reviews that shaped how the department meets community needs.

“To get a full picture of services, it’s vital to understand how these larger plans shape the day-to-day,” says Heather Scrannage, Manager, Housing and Homelessness. “This year’s Housing and Social Report demonstrates the amount of input and data that go into everything we do.”

The Report is now available for review online and offers updates on:

  • Child Care & Early Years Services
  • Social Assistance
  • Community Housing
  • Homelessness Services & Supports
  • Social Housing Programs
  • Affordable Housing Programs
  • Community Connections

The City’s goal is to work collaboratively to provide essential and meaningful services that help individuals and families secure their financial, housing, health and childcare needs.

Fostering healthy citizens is one of Council’s strategic priorities.
