NOVEMBER 13, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – As a result of the Northmart fire, the City would like to advise residents that retailers are working closely together to ensure the on-going provisions of food and supplies.
Available warehouse space has been secured by the retailers, and distribution arrangements are in place to continue to efficiently and effectively enable grocery stores in the city to meet the needs of citizens.
While there is no shortage of groceries, residents may wish to change their routines, and shop either earlier in the day, or later in the evening, to avoid lineups.
In addition, the City is encouraging residents to continue to shop locally to reduce the burden on current distribution systems reduce shipping delays.
For organizations, groups and people outside of the territory that may wish to provide support, the City is recommending that they work directly with local, established charities, and provide a monetary donation. This will enable local groups to purchase locally, helping to reduce any shipping backlogs.
