While a five-year-old Northwestern Ontario boy battles brain cancer at a Winnipeg hospital, his family and friends are trying to raise money so that his parents can afford to remain by his side.
The parents of Webequie First Nation’s Aidan Jacob are incurring travel and hotel costs beyond their ability to pay as their son undergoes radiation treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg.
Webequie is an indigenous fly-in community about 400 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay. Most people who live there are on social assistance.
“It costs a lot to fly (Aidan’s parents) to Thunder Bay, and then to drive to Winnipeg,” Dorothy Wabasse, one of the family’s supporters, said Wednesday.
