Chiefs of Ontario to Host Hundreds of First Nation Health Professionals at Annual Health Forum
TORONTO, ON (February 23, 2015) — Chiefs of Ontario will be hosting its 9th annual Health Forum this week in Toronto titled ‘Health as a Shared Priority’. The Health Forum takes place February 24, 25, 26 and is intended for a target audience that includes Community Based Health Workers, Health Directors, Community Health Nurses, Community Health Representatives and First Nation leadership, policy analysts and managers.
“Health is a priority in our communities and this conference is an opportunity for all our health care professionals to share their knowledge and discuss priorities,” Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy said. “This annual forum has become a tradition and is the one place where First Nations communities in Ontario can cover all pertinent health topics under one roof.”
There will be keynote speakers, program updates, presentations and two days of workshops from traditional practices and medicines and prescription drug abuse to community-based emergency care and midwifery programs. There will also be a portion where First Nation communities will share their success stories within the health sector.
Special guests will include Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee, Chair of Chiefs of Ontario Committee on Health, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long Term Care and Valerie Gideon, Assistant Deputy Minister Health Canada. There will also be a trade market with over 36 booths and vendors.
