Chief Public Health Officer isolating due to exposure to COVID-19

Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Michael Patterson today released the following statement:

“Like many other Nunavummiut, I have had to undergo 10 days of isolation due to being a high-risk contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. As my exposure was on February 7, I will be staying home until February 17. I am continuing to perform my duties remotely.

I am healthy and to date have not tested positive for the virus but am doing my part to protect the health of my community, colleagues and loved ones by following the isolation rules. If you have been in close, direct, and sustained contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive, within two days of them testing positive, please isolate for 10 days regardless of vaccination status.

I would also like to remind everyone that if you are a contact of a contact, you don’t need to isolate, but you should monitor for symptoms. As always, please wear a mask and follow public health measures.

Anyone who develops COVID-19 symptoms is advised to call the COVID hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EDT or notify their community health centre right away by telephone. Please do not go to the health centre in person.”
