The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced leader to fill the key role of Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, you will oversee the strategic and operational functions of the Finance, Materials Management, and Procurement teams.
Who We Are
WAHA is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Constance Lake. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. WAHA consists of 450 employees, a Physician team, many students, as well as community stakeholders. It is affiliated with Queens University and offers many educational opportunities for current and prospective team members.

What You’ll Do
- Advance an innovative financial strategy that, supports excellent patient care, and facilitates the optimization of hospital funding and future financial sustainability
- Provide strategic and operational leadership regarding financial opportunities and challenges, clinical services planning, projected growth, and government funding changes, investment and business planning, and risk management initiatives
- Advance WAHA’s infrastructure renewal and capital redevelopment initiatives
- Continue to advance strong working relationships with key provincial bodies including the Ministry of Health, Ontario Health, Indigenous Services Canada, and the Ontario Hospital Association to support the strategic, financial, and capital aspects for WAHA’s future
- Provide mentorship and support to a high-performing team, enabling growth and effective succession planning
- Build capacity within your team as well as the organization’s leadership teams
- Provides vision, direction, leadership, support and guidance for the respective portfolios
- Be an active and present member of the organization’s executive leadership team while collaboratively working to advance our organization’s mission, vision, and values
What You Bring
- Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or a related discipline is required
- A CPA designation or in progress, or an ability to obtain is required
- Master’s of Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related field is strongly preferred
- Experience working within a public-sector employer, preferably within the Ontario health system
- Understanding of both federal and provincial healthcare systems, funding models, and policies
- Experience leading a team within a unionized setting
- Strong understanding of the unique healthcare challenges facing patients of the James Bay coast

- Northern living allowance of $8794.50 per year (pensionable earning)
