CAP National Chief Announces First National Health Careers Conference and Trade Show, February 21-24, 2008 in Winnipeg, Manitoba

SE’TO SKATOWIN

(December 5, 2007 – Ottawa, ON) Patrick Brazeau, National Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples is proud to announce, on behalf of the National Youth Council and in collaboration with the Aboriginal Council of Manitoba, a national health careers conference scheduled to take place in February 2008 at the Delta Hotel in Winnipeg Manitoba. The National Youth Council of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) is hosting their first national conference that will focus on the promotion of health careers among Aboriginal youth.

Recent studies have shown that Canada is experiencing a shortage of health care providers and have demonstrated that without concerted efforts to increase the number of students entering health professions, the health care system will experience critical shortages within the next decade.

The event has three themes:

CHOOSING Your Career – ACHIEVING Your Career – BUILDING Your Career

The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) is a National Aboriginal Organization (NAO) representing the interests of off-reserve Aboriginal people living in urban, rural and remote areas throughout Canada. This event is open to ALL Aboriginal youth, regardless of residency or status.

Health career specialists, practitioners, researchers and healing and wellness workers and mentors will gather to share and showcase their experience in the health field and encourage our youth to choose a career in health. Participants will gain the knowledge and support needed to secure a successful future.
