Canada to spend $1 billion combating COVID-19 spread, economic impacts – CTV News

OTTAWA — The federal government is putting more than $1 billion into its plan to combat and mitigate the impacts of the outbreak of COVID-19 in Canada.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a handful of key cabinet ministers announced the “comprehensive” coronavirus response package on Parliament Hill on Wednesday.

“We are pulling out all the stops to make sure Canadians stay safe, healthy, and supported,” Trudeau said. “We will get through what comes next together.”

According to details about the full plan obtained by CTV News in advance, the government is looking to emphasize how it is “well-prepared” for both the public health threat and economic impacts of the virus.
