Call for members for a Medical Profession Act board of inquiry

Press Release

December 1, 2025

The Medical Profession Act mandates that a board of inquiry must be appointed, following a request by the review officer, to inquire into a complaint or information and review evidence related to allegations made against medical practitioners licensed in Nunavut.

The Department of Health is searching for the following members to form a board:

  • A medical practitioner who is registered in Nunavut.
  • A medical practitioner who is entitled to practice medicine in a province or territory of Canada, but not in Nunavut.
  • A public member who is not entitled to practice medicine in any province or territory of Canada and who does not work for the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health.

The board runs independently and holds hearings to reach a final decision based on evidence that is presented. The board could require several meetings to establish rules of order and preliminary work.

Members with diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds are an asset.

An honorarium is paid as per directive 810, GN Financial Administration Manual.

For those interested in this opportunity, please submit a resume and a letter of interest by December 19, 2025, to Barbara Harvey, registrar with the Department of Health, at bharvey@gov.nu.ca. Please direct any questions to Ms. Harvey by email or by phone at 867-982-7655. Interested applicants will be compiled and maintained for future boards of inquiry as needed.
