CAAN Update from the CEO’s Office

Oct 15, 2015

Following a hectic schedule of summer events that included a highly successful AGM, Wise Practices and the International AIDS Conference I want to thank the Board and Staff for your dedication and hard work which made the events a memorable one.  Congratulations to the Directors who will continue to provide strong leadership at the national table.

With the election called, the process of a new direction has been somewhat curtailed.  We have sent in a letter to Public Health asking for some funding to host a gathering for Board and staff to meet to discuss CAAN’s plans, but as well we wanted to invite our partners to discuss the National Strategy and the Community Action Fund.  At this time, the National election has put a hold on most government decisions.

CAAN is continuously evolving and now has made committees open and transparent for members to be engaged in all of the work we do.  On occasion, we recognize that moving forward in the future, it will be helpful to include Non Aboriginal and government representatives to support CAAN’s work.

Plans are underway for this annual event as per the following information.  This year’s theme will be a “Getting Tested” campaign.   We will continue to use the “Getting To Zero: Zero New Infections, Zero AIDS Related Deaths, and Zero Stigma and Discrimination”.  The deadline to have all materials developed and distributed is November 6th, 2015.  If you require posters and AAAW materials please contact our office.  Should you require further information please be in touch with Merv Thomas. November 30, 2015 – International Reception (with All Nations Hope AIDS Network), Regina, Saskatchewan

  • December 1, 2015 – APHA & Metis Day, Calgary, Alberta
  • December 2, 2015 – Women’s Day, Montreal Quebec

  • December 4, 2015 – 2-Spirit Day (with Wabanaki Two Spirit Alliance), Halifax, Nova Scotia)
  • December 5, 2015 – Inuit Day – TBA

Invitations have been sent to Aboriginal leadership to become engaged, this will be a busy time so lets work together to make AAAW a huge success.

Thank you to the team for your efforts in all the work we do at CAAN.
