MORLEY, Alta. – R-C-M-P and paramedics were called to a rural home west of Calgary yesterday where an infant was pronounced dead and 14 other people were found suffering from influenza-like symptoms.
Mounties say investigators including the major crimes unit is working to determine what happened.
E-M-S spokesman Stuart Brideaux says a four-month-old was pronounced dead at the home and 10 children and four young adults were rushed to hospital.
One of the children was in serious condition and rest were stable.
He says the symptoms were mainly respiratory — like seasonal flu.
Brideaux says it appears everyone is related somehow, but details are sketchy.
An official with Indigenous Services Canada says the department has offered support to community health officials.
But the department says questions about what happened should be directed to R-C-M-P.
