Boil Water Advisory for Rankin Inlet

Press Release

02 August 2022

The Department of Health is issuing a boil water advisory for residents of Rankin Inlet.

This is a precautionary measure due to scheduled maintenance on the water system. Ongoing work on the water system may cause low water pressure or slight discolouration of the water. During a boil water advisory, all water for consumption must be brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute.

It is essential that all water be boiled for the following uses:

  • Drinking.
  • Preparing infant formulas.
  • Preparing juices and ice cubes.
  • Washing fruits and vegetables.
  • Cooking.
  • Brushing of teeth.

Water can be boiled either in a pot or kettle on a stove or an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off.

It is not necessary to boil water used for anything other than the above list. The Department of Health will issue an additional Public Health Advisory notifying residents when the water no longer needs to be boiled.
