Boil Water Advisory for Arviat

June 07, 2017

The Department of Health is issuing a precautionary boil water advisory for the Hamlet of Arviat. Starting immediately, until further notice, all residents of Arviat must boil their water before consumption.

Test results from drinking water samples were unsatisfactory. The Department of Health, is investigating this matter and further water tests are being done.

During a boil water advisory all water for consumption must be brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute.

It is essential that all water be boiled for the following uses:

  • drinking,
  • preparing infant formulas,
  • preparing juices and ice cubes,
  • washing fruits and vegetables,
  • cooking, or
  • brushing of teeth.

Water can be boiled either in a pot or kettle on a stove, or in an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off.

It is not necessary to boil water that will be used for anything other than the above list.

For more information, please contact the Arviat hamlet office, or the environmental health officer at 867-645-6660.
