Community members from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation rescued four people Sunday after a boat sank in Lake Huron, says the Anishinabek Police Service.
Officers with the detachment at Kettle and Stony Point, as well as Kettle and Stony Point firefighters, responded to a call at approximately 5 p.m. off the 9300 block of Lake Road where a boat had taken on water and sank approximately 100 metres from shore, police said.
Before officers arrived, members of the community pulled all of the passengers from the water. The boaters – ages three, eight, 11 and 41 – were wearing lifejackets and were not injured, police said.
“Police would like to thank the members of the public that assisted with safely rescuing the individuals involved in this incident,” the detachment said in a news release.
