Arviat TB screening clinic ends this Friday, June 13

Press Release

June 12, 2025

The Department of Health would like to advise the residents of Arviat that the tuberculosis (TB) screening clinic that was set up in the hamlet office will end on June 13, 2025.

The TB clinic opened on April 29, 2025, allowing the TB team to screen eligible Arviat residents in seven short weeks.

Although the TB screening clinic at the Hamlet Office is coming to an end, the focused community screening will continue at the Health Centre. Residents of Arviat and health centre staff are encouraged to continue supporting community members who wish to be tested or are undergoing TB treatment.

If you have not been screened at the Hamlet Office or Health Centre – or if you have been in contact with someone who has active TB – you can visit or call the Arviat Health Centre at 867-857-3100 to book a free and confidential appointment.

TB testing is quick and simple, and it’s a great way to take care of yourself and those around you. Getting tested doesn’t mean you have TB, it just helps catch it early, which is the best way to stop it from spreading. TB can be treated with medication, and treatment is available right here in Arviat.

Watch for symptoms of active TB:

  • A cough that lasts more than three weeks.
  • Feeling very tired.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Unexplained weight loss.
  • Fever or night sweats.

If you notice any of these symptoms, visit the health centre as soon as possible for a check-up.

Even if you feel fine, testing for latent TB is still important. It’s not contagious, but without treatment, it can become active later on.

The Department of Health would like to thank Arviarmiut for their participation and support throughout the TB clinic screening process.
