The Enaahtig Healing Lodge and Learning Centre is the only place in Ontario that hosts residential programs to help Aboriginal people to stop smoking. The lodge’s programs are FREE to Aboriginal people. Yes, FREE!I’ve never been to the lodge myself, but several years ago an Elder I met told me that the lodge had been instrumental in her healing journey. It helped her to reconnect with and heal from some past trauma she’d had with her adult daughter. I’ve always been hoping to have my own chance to experience the lodge first-hand… to me, the lodge knows what it’s doing because it recognizes and respects that as Aboriginal people, we’re connected to the land. To heal ourselves, we need to be able to connect to that land, and the lodge helps us to do this.
Ehnaatig is about an hour and a half outside of Toronto.
The lodge is hosting its residential smoking cessation program from February 28 to March 2, 2010.
“I hope that more people are committed to quitting commercial tobacco in 2010,” says Lisa Beedie, Health Promotion Consultant at the Enaahtig Healing Lodge. “If anyone requires anymore information please give them my contact information.”
