Arctic Bay, NU (September 11, 2017) – Minister of Health George Hickes officially opened the Arctic Bay Health Centre today at a ribbon cutting. Minister Hickes was assisted by Minister of Community and Government Services Joe Savikataaq, MLA Isaac Shooyook and Arctic Bay Mayor Geela Arnauyumayuq.
“The new health centre is modern and welcoming, and replaces an out of date facility. Its modern design will meet the current and future needs of this High Arctic community, and features the latest in radiology and diagnostic systems. We are all pleased to be able to improve health services in Arctic Bay.” said Minister Hickes.
The original Arctic Bay Health Centre was built in 1983. It was too small to adequately serve the current and anticipated needs of the community. Upgrades to the health centre include new digital radiology equipment that will improve result times from days to hours, as well as training space for staff.
The new Arctic Bay Health Centre will include a five-plex residential unit to accommodate staff, to be completed in October this year.
