Apply Now to Attend the CMA Leaders’ Forum Series under Full Subsidy!

Deadline: Friday, 19 September 2008

Dear Colleagues,

Many of us are already in key leadership position in Indigenous health, and many more of us will be at different times in our careers. Like me, you may find yourself surprised by how quickly these leadership opportunities present themselves and feel ill-equipped to handle the challenge of leadership. Each year the Canadian Medical Association hosts a Leadership Forum, and this year it is occurring in Ottawa from October 25-27. Once again this year, through funding supplied by the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada, the CMA is offering subsidized positions for First Nations, Inuit and Métis medical students, residents and physicians. The following message has been sent from the CMA Office for Leadership in Medicine:“Apply now to attend the CMA Leaders’ Forum series under full subsidy! Deadline: Friday, 19 September 2008. CMA Leadership Workshop for Medical Women (25 October 2008) CMA Leaders’ Forum (25-27 October 2008) CMA Doctors in the House (27 October 2008)

Program agenda, general information and a copy of the attached form will be available online at www.cma.ca/leadership. Subsidy includes full coverage of travel (based on economy class airfare), hotel accommodation and registration fees. Subsidy does not cover incidental costs and meals outside the event itself – this would be under the responsibility of the individual attending the event. Subsidized attendance to these programs for aboriginal medical students, residents and physicians has been made possible by a financial contribution from the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Health Canada.

To apply or for more information about the program, please contact Carol Rochefort, Program Manager, Canadian Medical Association at 800 663-7336 x 2253 or via email at leadership@cma.ca . The selection process will be done in collaboration with the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada.”

Please note that the subsidy is available for medical students, residents or physicians and the deadline to apply is September 19th, 2008. Given the increasing leadership role of IPAC in Indigenous health nationally, I hope many of you will apply and attend this forum. Having well-trained and passionate leaders is crucial to the success of our organization, and to the achievement of our vision. As IPAC’s representative on the planning committee for the Leader’s Forum I look forward to seeing you at the Forum, at the workshop on leadership in Aboriginal health, and at a dinner IPAC will host for our members who attend.

In Peace,
Marcia Anderson, MD MPH FRCPC
President
Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada
