Inviting Submissions for the CAAN APHA Caucus Logo Contest – June 25, 2013

Honoring Our Diversity – In the Circle we are All Equal

As a caucus of Aboriginal persons living with HIV and AIDS, we envision a world where we are interconnected and joined together as one circle and as one community with one voice. In recognition of our diversity within our caucus, it is important to acknowledge the symbols and/or sacred items that sustain and strengthen us and remind us of our distinct identities as First Nations, Inuit and Métis within the circle of life.

The CAAN National Aboriginal People living with HIV & AIDS Advisory Committee (APHA Committee) is currently inviting submissions for the CAAN APHA Caucus Logo Contest. If you are not a current CAAN member, we invite you to join NOW at www.caan.ca

The prize for the winning logo will be $200.00 with a profile of the artist and artwork on the CAAN website.

Who: This contest is open to all APHA members of the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network. Whether you’re a professional artist or you just like to draw, we welcome your participation!

What: We are looking for a design that will become the official logo of the CAAN APHA Caucus, to be used on all correspondence, promotional and other materials for the related to the activities of the APHA Caucus. You will find additional information in the attached document

When: We will be accepting submissions until Friday, September 13 at 5PM EST.

About the Aboriginal People living with HIV & AIDS Caucus (APHA Caucus)

The APHA Caucus meets annually prior the CAAN Skills Building Symposium/AGM in order to draft resolutions to be presented to the floor of the CAAN Annual General Meeting and to provide caucus members with the opportunity to meet, discuss issues, strategize, network and to share skills and information.

About the National Aboriginal Persons living with HIV & AIDS Caucus Advisory Committee (APHA Committee)

The purpose of this Advisory Committee is to provide advice, direction and comments to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CAAN on the development of the Aboriginal Persons Living with HIV/ AIDS Coordination Program, proposals that are being considered for funding submission, talking circles, capacity-building for APHAs, Position Paper development, and national committee participation at CAAN and the discussion/recommendation of resolutions to be brought forward.

CAAN APHA CAUCUS LOGO CONTEST:

RULES AND INFORMATION

The CAAN National Aboriginal Persons living with HIV & AIDS Advisory Committee (APHA Committee) is currently inviting submissions for its APHA Caucus Logo Contest. The prize for the winning logo will be $200.00 with a profile of the artist and artwork on the CAAN website.

ARTWORK SPECIFICATIONS

This contest is open to all Aboriginal People living with HIV & AIDS who are members of CAAN, whether you are a professional or an amateur. However, the logo must follow these specifications:

  • It must be an original work produced by you.
  • Submissions must be two-dimensional. Formats include, but are not limited to digital designs, paintings, drawings, etc.
  • Submissions must be in greyscale (black, white and different shades of grey) and green only (and/or if you submit a piece in color, it may be pared down to greyscale and green for printing).
  • Any text copy must be submitted in English or French and will be professionally translated into English and French.
  • The logo should include the caption “CAAN APHA Caucus. If you choose to submit a design without this caption, it will be added subsequently.
  • The design should be relevant to the theme of Aboriginal People in Canada.
  • The design should be of a size appropriate for use as a logo (approximately 3”x 3”). If you submit a larger piece, it must lend itself to being reduced to logo-size.

ELIGIBILITY

To enter and be eligible for your artwork to be chosen, you must be an Aboriginal Person living with HIV and AIDS of 18 years of age and an individual member of CAAN. Professional and amateur artists are welcome. Your artwork submission must never have been previously exhibited publicly or selected as a winner in any other contest.

HOW TO ENTER

Your submission can be sent electronically or by regular mail, to the attention of Doris Peltier, APHA Liaison for the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network. Please make sure that you include your name and contact information along with the submission.

The deadline to enter a logo submission is:

Friday, September 13 at 5PM EST.

CONTEST RULES

By participating in the contest, each participant agrees to be bound by these contest rules, and guarantees that the submission:

Is an original piece of artwork created by the entrant and that the entrant has all necessary rights in and to the submission and all of its components – including, without limitation, any and all pictures, photographs, or artwork contained therein – to enter the contest;
Does not and will not violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation;
Is not and will not be defamatory, trade libelous, and further that it will not contain, include, discuss or involve, without limitation, any of the following:
Derogatory characterizations of any ethnic, racial, sexual or religious groups;
Content that endorses, condones or discusses any illegal or inappropriate activity, behaviour or conduct;
Personal information of individuals, including without limitation, names, addresses (physical or e-mail), phone and/or fax numbers;
Any other content that is or could be considered inappropriate, unsuitable or offensive, as determined by the Sponsor and/or the contest judges in their sole discretion.

WINNER SELECTION

The winning logo will be selected by the following process: The panel of judges will initially review all submissions that are submitted during the contest period. Any submission that the contest judges deem, in their sole discretion, to violate the terms and conditions set forth in these rules will automatically be disqualified from the contest. The contest judges reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to remove any submission, or to request a participant to modify or edit their submission, if a complaint is received with respect to the submission, or for any other reason. The panel of judges will consist of 4 members of the CAAN APHA Committee: Art (Ontario), Doris (Quebec), Kerrigan (Ontario), Arthur (Atlantic)

Criteria for judging may include, but are not limited to:

Relevance to Aboriginal People living with HIV and AIDS in Canada;
Visual appeal; and
Suitability for use as the official logo of the Aboriginal Persons living with HIV & AIDS Caucus (APHA Caucus)
To be declared a winner, the selected participant must sign and return within 10 business days of notification a declaration and release, which, among other things:

Assigns all intellectual property, including copyright, in and to their submission
Agrees to indemnify the contest organizers, the contest judges and affiliated organizations against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from use of their submission; including without limitation, any claim that their artwork infringes a proprietary interest of any third party.
LOGO WILL BE UNVEILED DURING THE ABORIGINAL AIDS AWARENESS WEEK, DECEMBER 1ST, 2013.

COPYRIGHT
By entering the contest, all participants agree as follows: (i) that the contest and conference organizers will have the right to publish, display, reproduce, modify, edit or otherwise use the submission in whole or in part on the website, letters, advertisements, press releases, programs and all other materials related to the Aboriginal Persons living with HIV & AIDS Caucus, (ii) to release and hold harmless the contest organizers, the contest judges and affiliated organizations against any and all claims, injury or damage arising out of or in relating to participation in the contest, and further against any claims based on publicity rights, defamation, invasion of privacy, copyright infringement, trade-mark infringement or any other intellectual property related cause of action.
