Anti-Poverty What We Heard Report released by GNWT

Press Release

The Government of the Northwest Territories has released the What We Heard 2021 Anti-Poverty Roundtable report.

This report summarizes the main discussions and themes surrounding food security discussed during the virtual Anti-Poverty Roundtable held January 26 and 27, 2021.

Some of the topics explored at this year’s event include:

  • What makes you feel food secure? What do we envision for our food system in the NWT?
  • What can we do to sustain harvesting into the future?
  • What does a healthy NWT agricultural sector look like?
  • How can we work together to support food security/sovereignty in the NWT?
  • How do we ensure that Indigenous communities define their own food systems and have control over harvesting, production, and distribution of healthy and culturally appropriate foods?

“The GNWT has made a mandate commitment to increase food security in the territory. The annual anti-poverty round table is an important event that allows the GNWT to connect with grassroots community members who are well positioned to understand the specific poverty and food security issues facing residents throughout the NWT.”

– Julie Green, Minister of Health and Social Services
