Another homeless count possible – The Chronicle Journal

Thunder Bay officials focused on curing the city’s homelessness problem say they’re looking forward to re-assessing the situation next year through an updated survey.

That prospect was made possible Thursday after the federal government announced $3 million so that about 60 communities impacted by homelessness can apply to conduct “point-in-time” counts of actual homeless people in 2018.

Thunder Bay, whose 2016 count found nearly 300 people on the street, is on the list of communities that can apply for more funding.

“We’re probably in a good position to make another (funding) application,” said Lakehead Social Planning Council services director Marie Klassen, a member of the Thunder Bay Housing and Homelessness Coalition.
