Andrew Wood Honoured with The 2024 Excellence in Health Leadership – Innovative Leaders Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 6, 2024 – The First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA), in collaboration with Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC), is proud to announce that Muskow Kapow (Andrew Wood), Director of Regional Health Programs at Four Arrows Health Authority, has been awarded the 2024 Excellence in Health Leadership – Innovative Leaders Award at FNHMA’s 12th Annual National Conference in Calgary, Alberta.

Andrew Wood is celebrated for his transformative work in advancing health services for First Nations communities in the Island Lake Anisininew territory in northeast Manitoba.

Recognized as a natural-born leader, he has successfully developed and implemented culturally-relevant health strategies that enhance accessibility, resource allocation, and quality of care for the region. His initiatives reflect a deep commitment to providing health solutions that honour and respond to the cultural values and needs of the people in the territory.

“Andy’s dedication to culturally-responsive health care is truly inspiring. His leadership has set a standard for health equity and access in First Nations communities, creating a lasting impact. It’s an honour to recognize his contributions with this award and we are grateful for his work in contributing to the founding of our association’s professional competency standards,” said FNHMA CEO Marion Crowe.

About the Award

The Excellence in Health Leadership – Innovative Leaders Award is designed to recognize those who have displayed a sincere, long-term commitment and strong leadership skills in First Nations health management in Canada. Nominees must have advanced health management capabilities in First Nations communities. The award is given to those who have shown evidence of modeling their own continuous learning and capacity development and support of continuous learning in their employees, and demonstrated work dedicated to health system improvement and innovation.
