Indigenous nurses, Indigenous health organizations, community leaders and other partners that provide support to the health and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples, are critical to our shared pursuit of equitable and culturally appropriate health care for Indigenous Peoples.
On Indigenous Nurses Day, we recognize the contributions of Indigenous Nurses and celebrate the skills and dedication of these valued members of our health-care teams. Indigenous nurses support care in remote and rural First Nations, Métis and Inuit Communities, working in nursing stations, supporting public health efforts to promote prevention and management of chronic disease, and more recently participating in COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and vaccination efforts. They also work in many urban centres across our province, supporting high quality care across the full health care continuum, from the community to acute care facilities to long term care.
