Advisory to the Residents of Lax Kw’alaams COVID-19 – Advisory #15

Press Release

TRAVEL TO THE PRINCE RUPERT-PRINCE GEORGE CORRIDOR RESTORED. USE OF MASKS

The Emergency Measures Committee (EMC) met on November 9th to discuss the travel restrictions that were imposed two weeks ago.  These restrictions were put in place because we saw cases of the COVID-19 virus in Prince Rupert.

We have no further evidence that the virus has spread in Prince Rupert.  The committee therefore agreed to return to the previous advisory.  What does this mean?

  1.  If you are a resident of Lax Kw’alaams, you may travel to and from the community for any purpose as long as you restrict your travels to the Prince Rupert – Prince George corridor.
  2. If you are a Band member who doesn’t live here, you may enter Lax Kw’alaams provided you have not been outside the Prince Rupert – Prince George corridor.
  3. If you are not a Band member (contractors) you are not allowed to enter the community unless you have special approval to do so.

To be clear, Band members from outside the corridor are not allowed into the community.  We are particularly concerned with the recent COVID outbreak in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

We stress that all members should wear their masks, especially when going in and out of Prince Rupert, within the Prince Rupert, and in public buildings in Lax Kw’alaams.  Please.  We can control the health of our community while we wait for the vaccine to be deployed.

Be safe.

Mayor
