The video (10:55 min.) shares valuable information from the Tsimshian, Tahltan, Haisla, Gitxsan and Nisǥa’a people on their cultural practices and how these impact their health-care needs. This video was developed by the Terrace/Kitimat and area Aboriginal Health Improvement Committee with financial support from Aboriginal Health, Northern Health.
Examples:
From Verna Howard, Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en Nation: The grandmother is in the delivery room when the baby is first born and she’ll look for recognizable birth marks because their culture believes in reincarnation.
From Jodi Payne, Tahltan Nation: Traditionally they will take the placenta home and tie it in a tree to give back to Mother Earth.
