Minister says she wants to see data from other places, needs Indigenous input first
The N.W.T.’s health minister says she wants to see how involuntary care works for people with addictions issues in other jurisdictions first, before considering doing the same in the territory.
Involuntary care is one form of treatment for people with symptoms so severe it impacts their safety or those around them, and they cannot — or will not — be treated voluntarily.
Across Canada, more provinces including B.C. and Alberta, are trying to expand involuntary care for those suffering from substance abuse and drug addiction.
