Investigators hired by an inquiry looking into the child welfare system in Labrador say the deaths of six Innu youth were associated with consistent causes.
“Across all cases reviewed, a consistent and deeply interconnected pattern of harm emerged that is rooted in colonial legacies, current inequities, service gaps, cultural dislocation, and governance failures,” said the report written for the inquiry into the child welfare system in Labrador.
“While each child’s experience is unique, the findings demonstrate that these harms are not isolated or accidental, but systemic, predictable and preventable.”
