Canadian international merchandise trade, February 2026
In February, Canada’s merchandise trade activity increased sharply, with imports rising 8.4% and exports increasing 6.4%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the world widened from $4.2 billion in January to $5.7 billion in February.
Natural resource indicators, fourth quarter 2025
Real gross domestic product (GDP) of the natural resources sector declined slightly (-0.2%) in the fourth quarter of 2025, after recording modest growth (+0.9%) in the third quarter. In comparison, economy-wide real GDP declined 0.2% in the fourth quarter, after rising 0.6% in the third quarter.
Canadian international trade in services, February 2026
Canada’s monthly international trade in services balance went from an essentially balanced position in January to a surplus of $0.4 billion in February. Overall, exports of services increased 1.5% to $20.3 billion, and imports of services decreased 0.7% to $19.9 billion.

Lumber production increased 16.2% from December to 3 374.5 thousand cubic metres in January. Production was down 12.8% from January 2025.
