Police-reported hate crime in Canada, 2024

In 2024, Canadian police services reported 4,882 hate crimes, a slight increase (+1%) from 2023. This followed a much sharper increase of 34% from 2022 to 2023. When accounting for the size of the population, however, the rate of police-reported hate crime per 100,000 population declined by 2% from 2023 to 2024. Despite the decline, the hate crime rate more than doubled (+142%) from 2018 to 2024, while the overall crime rate increased 3%.

Survey on the Use of Digital Technologies by Health Care Providers, 2025

The 2025 Survey on the Use of Digital Technologies by Health Care Providers found that just over 9 in 10 Canadian health care providers (92%) had access to a digital health system in 2024, and over half (52%) reported using a digital health system to share patient clinical information electronically outside of their main practice setting.

Government finance statistics, fourth quarter 2025

In the fourth quarter, the Canadian general government recorded a deficit of $20.8 billion, an increase of $6.7 billion compared with the same quarter in 2024. This was driven by a combination of slower revenue growth (+2.4%) and higher spending (+4.3%). Excluding social security funds, the deficit stood at $27.9 billion, up $11.0 billion from the $16.9 billion deficit recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024.

In 2023, there were a total of 5,714 active non-financial co-operatives in Canada, a 1.7% increase from 2022. Active non-financial co-operatives in Canada continued the upward trend observed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the third consecutive yearly rise of non-financial co-operatives since the 0.6% drop recorded in 2020.

Canada’s economy has struggled with weak productivity growth for more than two decades, constraining improvements in living standards and long-term economic growth. Understanding the sources of this slowdown has therefore become a central concern for policymakers. One factor that has attracted growing attention is competition, as it is widely viewed as an important driver of productivity. Competitive pressures shape firms’ incentives to innovate, control costs, and adopt more efficient technologies, while also enabling the reallocation of resources from less productive to more productive firms across the economy.
