Press Release

Where: Happy Valley–Goose Bay
When: January 26, 2026

The Health and Community Services Department is hosting a one-day End-of-Life Care Forum in Happy Valley–Goose Bay. This forum will bring together NunatuKavut Inuit, healthcare providers, community leaders, knowledge holders, and support organizations to engage in meaningful, culturally grounded discussions about end-of-life care across NunatuKavut Inuit communities.

As NunatuKavut communities experience a rapidly aging population, this forum provides an opportunity to explore how we can strengthen comfort, dignity, and culturally safe care at the end of life. The day will focus on respectful knowledge sharing between professionals and community members while honouring NunatuKavut Inuit values, family practices, lived experiences, and individual choice.

Forum Topics Include:

  • Palliative care
  • Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)
  • Cultural considerations and community perspectives
  • Caregiver needs and supports
  • Community-level end-of-life services

Forum Goal:

o create a safe, respectful, and culturally grounded space for NunatuKavut Inuit, healthcare providers, knowledge holders, and community members to come together and strengthen understanding of end-of-life care. Through open dialogue and community-driven perspectives, the forum aims to identify opportunities to enhance end-of-life supports in ways that honour NunatuKavut Inuit values, family practices, and individual choice.
