Group Health Centre to roster 14,000 patients in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. by 2027 – CBC

Officials say 8,000 de-rostered patients will have a primary care provider at the Group Health by December

The Group Health Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. says 14,000 patients will be rostered to a primary care provider by early 2027.

Officials announced Tuesday that 8,000 patients from its temporary Access Care Clinic will be re-rostered at the Group Health by December.

That clinic was put in place as a short-term solution when 10,000 patients suddenly lost their family doctor in the Sault and surrounding area last year due to retirements and the ongoing physician shortage.

The health centre said another 6,000 people in the Algoma district will be picked up through the Grow Your Own Nurse Practitioner Program — which launched in 2024 and saw its first graduate last week.

Group Health CEO Lil Silvano said patients under that program will be rostered over the next 18 months.
