Canada’s population estimates: Age and gender, July 1, 2025
The population of Canada reached an estimated 41,651,653 people on July 1, 2025. This is an increase of 47,098 people (+0.1%) from April 1, 2025, and the lowest population growth rate in a second quarter since the second quarter of 2020 (+0.1%), when growth nearly halted because of border restrictions at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fertility and baby names, 2024
Canada’s total fertility rate (TFR) was 1.25 children per woman in 2024, a record low.
Canada’s population estimates, second quarter 2025
Population estimates for Canada, the provinces, and territories on July 1, 2025, are now available. These new data allow for an analysis of population change during the second quarter of 2025. Updated estimates from the third quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2025 are also available. Demographic estimates up to and including the fourth quarter of 2021 are final.

Births, 2024
According to the data released today from the Canadian Vital Statistics – Birth database, there were 365,737 live births in Canada in 2024, 3.7% more births than the 352,644 reported in 2023. While the increase in births has implications for population growth, other trends that might have consequences for the health of the child and of the mother have been observed in recent years.

The volume of cargo carried by Canadian railways reached 30.7 million tonnes in July 2025, down 0.4% from one year earlier.

Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Advance indicator, August 2025
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for August. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales decreased 1.5% in August. The largest decreases were in the transportation equipment and food subsectors.
