Press Release
August 13, 2025
The Government of Yukon is looking for input from Yukoners on the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Act, which aims to address property-based illegal activities in the Yukon. This public engagement gives Yukoners a chance to help shape how the Act responds to rising challenges such as organized crime and drug trafficking connected to local properties.
Yukoners’ feedback will guide the government in helping ensure the Act effectively reflects the community’s expectations for safety and enforcement. Yukoners can complete an online survey until September 13, 2025. In-person or online engagements with First Nations governments, municipal governments, partners and stakeholders will continue until September 26, 2025.
This public engagement is part of the comprehensive review of the legislation that must be completed by 2027. The legislative review will assess the Act and its enforcement, with the goal of enhancing safety in neighbourhoods by addressing property-based illegal activities that concern residents.
Community and neighbourhood safety is a top priority for this government, and Yukoner’s feedback on the SCAN Act will help ensure the legislation meets the needs of Yukon communities. We recognize that First Nation governments, municipal governments, partners and stakeholders that work collaboratively with the SCAN Unit have invaluable information to share that will inform revisions to the Act. Thank you to everyone taking the time to complete the survey and share their views, your input is essential to building safer communities for all.
Tracy-Anne McPhee, Minister of Justice and Attorney General
We want to hear directly from Yukoners about the issues that matter most to them. Community safety is one of our government’s top priorities, and we are committed to supporting communities by ensuring laws—like the SCAN Act—are effective in tackling challenges such as organized crime and drug-related activities. Listening to Yukoners and understanding their concerns is essential to building stronger, safer neighbourhoods throughout the territory.
