Funding will help improve accessibility at local medical centre
KENORA – The Ontario government is investing more than $22,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) for accessibility upgrades to the Paterson Medical Centre in Kenora. This funding will help ensure the centre is a safe, accessible space for older adults, children and people with mobility issues or injuries for years to come.
“Our government is proud to help support the Kenora Health Care Centre, the not-for-profit organization that operates the Paterson Medical Centre,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry. “These improvements ensure that the centre is safe and accessible for people of all ages, and contributes to a strong, healthy and vibrant community.”
The investment will fund power-operated, touchless doors to the public washrooms, improving accessibility and reducing the transfer of germs. This upgrade will improve patient experience and ensure the centre and its service providers can continue to deliver important medical services to the residents of Kenora and surrounding communities.
“This project, funded by the Ontario government, is a welcome addition to the Paterson Medical Centre. The addition of power operators will improve accessibility to the washrooms for those with mobility and health issues and provide hands-free access thereby optimizing cleanliness, especially during COVID-19,” said Warren Spencer, Facility Manager, Paterson Medical Centre.
“Our government is committed to creating a more accessible and inclusive Ontario,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “Improving the accessibility features of the Paterson Medical Centre will ensure the centre can best serve all members of the community.”
The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate recovery, growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $432 million in 4,025 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $1.4 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 6,200 jobs.
