08/29/07 – Residents of Six Nations with cardiovascular/heart type afflictions that frequent events in and around the Territory of Six Nations do so with a certain level of caution, especially in the heat of this 2007 summer.
Six Nations selection and presentation today as one of the 50 recipients to receive 2 new public defibrillator’s will take the caution levels of many to hopefully rest at ease for a more enjoyable and active livelihood.
The 2 new public defibrillator’s are the result of a generous donation of a $3 million grant — the largest in North American history for defibrillators — from the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion, complemented by the largest private sector gift of $1 million from The Frank Cowan Foundation to the Heart & Stroke Restart a Heart, Restart a Life Campaign.
Over the next few months installation of the defibrillators will take place in high traffic public sites, selected in conjunction with Six Nations Ambulance Service. In the first year, training and equipment will be provided. Eight to ten trained personnel will be available at each defibrillator location to assist someone who is having a cardiac arrest.
