Media Advisory – First Nations Health Managers Award of Excellence Winners to be handed out at 7:15 pm March 18th, 2008

OTTAWA, March 17 – For the first time an Award of Excellence will be presented to First Nations Health Managers who have made a difference in their community through their hard work and dedication. First Nations Health Managers are frontline workers who manage staff, health programs and policy in First Nations communities. Winners were nominated by their peers and selected by the National First Nations Health Managers Advisory Committee. The award will be presented at a National Forum for First Nations Health Managers, to be held March 18th and 19th in Edmonton. The National Forum will bring First Nations Health Managers together from across Canada and to discuss training needs, best practices, professional development, issues surrounding the recruitment and retention of staff, and the core competencies Health Managers need to do their job well. It is an opportunity for Health managers to network and contribute to the future of the health profession.
