Ontario Government Helps Bring Better Facilities To Northern First Nation

Members of Mississauga First Nation now have a space to hold community events, and engage youth and elders in fitness and wellness activities.The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) has provided $223,150 to support the completion of the Sports and Culture Centre. The facility includes a gymnasium, kitchen, concession area, weight room, change rooms, a whirlpool and sauna, stage, and youth and elders’ centres.

“This project is important contributor to the health and well being of the Mississauga First Nation community,” said Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Brown.

“This project will provide the First Nation with functional space to hold community events,” said Northern Development and Mines Minister and NOHFC Chair Michael Gravelle.

Mississauga First Nation adjoins the community of Blind River, Ontario.

Since 2003, Ontario has invested over $23 million in Aboriginal communities through NOHFC programs, including Telehealth Services expansion, waterfront development and cultural attractions.
