Our youth matters’: Chiefs speak up to support teepee protest – Regina Leader-Post

A delegation of 25 travelled all the way from Fond Du Lac to Regina, carrying reminders of loved ones lost to suicide.

Victor McDonald handed over a treasured picture on Tuesday, after travelling more than 1,000 kilometres to get from Fond Du Lac to Regina.

It was a picture of his son, Vick, who died of suicide three years ago at age 24. Thoughts of suicide have haunted his family ever since. His oldest daughter almost took her own life, McDonald said. He thought about it too.

“It’s not an easy life, losing a child… losing your own blood,” he said, a tear running down his cheek as he spoke to reporters.

“That’s what I went through in my life. One day, I just wanted to take my life — that’s how far I went.”
