In 2000, SIGA sponsored the purchase of the first Pediatric Ambulance which has saved lives of many children in Saskatchewan. During the course of a six year span from 2002-2008, 32 different communities were serviced with 795 pediatric unit transports and 441 (55%) of these patients being First Nations. Some of the communities included Big River, Biggar, Kelvington, Lloydminster, Melfort, Nipawin, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Rosthern, Spiritwood, Swift Current, Tisdale, Turtleford, and Shellbrook.
The ambulance transported many sick or injured infants and children over the years and has racked up over 310,000 kilometers.
This year, SIGA will donate $50,000 to The Children’s Health and Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan’s 2009 Drive for Kids Campaign. This will go towards the purchase another Pediatric equipped ambulance.
This ambulance will be the first of its kind in North America. SIGA’s support of this initiative will continue to assist in providing the health care needs of Saskatchewan’s children and affirm SIGA’s commitment to the well being of the community it serves.
