Edmonton… Gene Zwozdesky, Minister of Health and Wellness, has received a report summarizing a 4-month long consultation process with Albertans. The report was prepared by Fred Horne, MLA, Edmonton-Rutherford, and an 8-member advisory committee. The report is comprised of 2 parts: Part One, Putting People First – Recommendations for an Alberta Health Act, which contains 15 recommendations intended to provide input on developing a new Alberta Health Act; and, Part Two, Putting People First – A Summary of Views, which is a comprehensive summary of the input provided by Albertans through the consultation process.
“In February’s Throne Speech, our government made a commitment to introduce new health legislation this fall,” said Minister Zwozdesky. “In order to fulfill that commitment, I asked MLA Horne to lead a public consultation process and provide me with a blueprint for action on how to implement the 4 major recommendations from the Minister’s Advisory Committee on Health which government accepted earlier this year.”
“I now have the consultation report in hand, and I want to thank MLA Horne and his committee for their hard work in compiling it,” added Zwozdesky. “I also want thank all the Albertans who provided valuable input into this report, including their comments regarding the development of an Alberta Health Act. I have asked MLA Horne to release the report publicly tomorrow.”
Zwozdesky noted that the report and recommendations will be reviewed by the Government of Alberta, and that a formal government response can be expected in October. The report will be posted on-line at www.health.alberta.ca once it has been publicly released.
