Drop-in counselling, camps among core services offered
There is one thing that seems to always surprise people about the work Native Child and Family Services of Toronto does: the number of aboriginal children and families who live in the city.
“It’s always surprising to people that aboriginal children are everywhere, and increasingly aboriginal children and families are moving away from reserves to large urban settings,” says executive director Kenn Richard.
He notes that Toronto has one of the largest urban Native populations in Canada.
“We are a multi-service agency that serves these native families and children in the Toronto area, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit . . . We work with people who are constantly beating the odds.”
