HSNRI Scientific Director selected to National Advisory Board

(Sudbury, ON) Dr. Janet McElhaney, Vice President of Research and Scientific Director for Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) and Professor of Medicine at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), was selected to participate as a member of the Institute Advisory Board (IAB) for Indigenous Peoples’ Health for Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
“I am truly honoured to have received this invitation to serve on the IAB for Indigenous Peoples’ Health. I look forward to working with my colleagues from across the country to look at how we can improve the health of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people”, says Dr. McElhaney
The CIHR introduced five new advisory boards that will provide expertise and relevant advice to its Institutes. Members of the IAB represent the highest standard of excellence across CIHR’s four research areas biomedical, social, cultural and environmental factors that affect population health.
“I want to congratulate Dr. McElhaney for being recognized for her expertise in Indigenous Peoples’ Health. She is bringing much needed focus to Northern and Indigenous Health issues. As a leader in geriatrics research, Dr McElhaney brings an expertise to assisting our aging First Nations, Inuit and Métis people,” says Dr. Denis Roy, CEO of HSNRI.

CIHR received 453 applications from individuals who put their names forward. IAB members are volunteers who serve for staggered two-, three- or four-year terms and are eligible to be renewed for a second term of up to three years.
