Canadians are calling for a collaborative, strong and innovative national housing strategy to eliminate homelessness across the country.

They want a plan that boosts the country’s affordable housing stock and employs new financial solutions to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people, including indigenous communities. Government, participants say, must also set clear outcomes and targets, collect data, and examine existing laws and policies to ensure fair access to safe and affordable housing.

Those were some of the key themes identified through a four-month-long, countrywide consultation and summarized in a report released on Tuesday, entitled What We Heard: Shaping Canada’s National Housing Strategy.
