VICTORIA – The Province has announced investment of $24 million to support community programs, increase access to fresh food, offer dental and hearing care for B.C.’s most vulnerable children, and provide $7 million for a new Community Poverty Reduction Fund administered by Vancouver Foundation.
The Community Poverty Reduction Fund is designed to address the root causes of poverty by supporting community-inspired social innovations. Supported projects will seek to understand better the underlying root causes of poverty, or will test the ability to influence the systemic behaviours that are creating or holding poverty in place, or will work to scale a proven innovation.
“Vancouver Foundation funds organizations who bring forward innovative solutions that address community needs and support the growth of healthy, vibrant and livable communities across BC. The Community Poverty Reduction Fund will generate new opportunities to collaborate and address the root causes of poverty in our communities.” – Kevin McCort, President and CEO Vancouver Foundation.
Grants from the Community Poverty Reduction Fund will be made through Vancouver Foundation’s Field of Interest Grants program, and applications will be assessed against the social innovation criteria specified in our funding guidelines.
In addition to the Community Poverty Reduction Fund, Vancouver Foundation administers the charitable intentions of more than 1800 other funds. With the addition of grants from the Community Poverty Reduction Fund, Vancouver Foundation will distribute almost $23 million to communities across BC through its discretionary granting programs this year.
