Territory’s active cases stand at 64, premier says

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Nunavut fell again Tuesday despite an increase in the number of new cases in Iqaluit, according to Premier Joe Savikataaq.

Six new cases were confirmed since Monday but seven more people have recovered from the illness, the premier wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning. There have been 171 recoveries since the latest outbreak began in mid-April, affecting Iqaluit, Kinngait and Rankin Inlet.

It brings the number of cases across the territory down to 64 on Tuesday from 65 the day before.

All but one of the cases are in Iqaluit. There is a single case in Kinngait.

Government of Nunavut officials are scheduled to provide a public update Wednesday at 11 a.m. eastern time from the legislative assembly. The updates are streamed on the assembly’s website.
