2009 Get Active NWT Wraps-up

Yellowknife – August 10, 2009 – Minister of Municipal and Communities Affairs (MACA) Robert C. McLeod today announced the winners of the GNWT’s 2009 Get Active NWT campaign.Created in 2007, the purpose of Get Active NWT is to raise public awareness of the health benefits of being physically active, and to encourage communities to organize events that support families and youth to be more physically active.

More than 5,000 residents from 25 communities participated. “This year’s Get Active NWT was a success,” says Minister McLeod. “We had more residents and communities participate, and it’s great to see the communities take the lead and organize events to ensure their residents lead a healthy and active lifestyle.”

All participants in the 2009 Get Active NWT campaign were entered in a draw to win a flight for two from First Air or a Nintendo Wii. Congratulations to the following individuals for getting active this winter and winning:

Winners of the flight passes:

1. Elisabeth Von Rhe’dey – Trout Lake
2. Greg Shae – Fort Good Hope
3. Jennifer Makepeace – Hay River
4. Mark Gordon – Aklavik

Winners of the Nintendo Wii:

1. Richard James Blake – Fort McPherson
2. Adrian Bergeron – Yellowknife
3. Henry Cli – Fort Simpson
